GAME ONE: WORCESTER 5, SYRACUSE 4 / 7 (BOX)
Jeff McNeil, center fielder extraordinaire, got the start in game one of the double header as he and Francisco Alvarez’s rehab assignments come to an end, with the pair likely being activated Friday. McNeil got them out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second, and went 2-4 on the day.
Worcester came back twice. one from a 1-0 deficit, and the second time from a 4-2 deficit in the fifth inning to take game one.

No, it is not a typo. The Mets lost game two by the same 5-4 score, though it went a very different day than game one.
The Mets fell behind 3-0 by the second inning, and chased the dragon from there. Jon Singleton and Donovan Walton got them within a run, but Worcester scored two more of their own. Walton and Luke Ritter got it to within a run again, but they could just not get the big hit in their comeback attempts.
Francisco Alvarez had a much less impressive final rehab assignment than Jeff McNeil the game prior, but he made it through healthy.

The Rumble Pony pitching staff was the star of the show. with Jack Wenniger leading the charge. The righty went five scoreless, striking out 10 and surrendering just four hits. He lowered his season ERA to 0.90. It is what you want.
The trio of Trey McLoughlin, Hunter Parsons, and Carlos Guzman were just as electric out of the pen, finishing the shutout and striking out six as a unit.
Offensively, they did more than enough. Ryan Clifford hit a two run home run in the first, and Nick Lorusso hit a sacrifice fly to ice the game in the third.

Brooklyn had the prototypical “doing just enough to win the game” performance. They scored two runs, both on an error in the third, on just two hits.
The combination of Joel Diaz, Brendan Girton, Jace Beck, and Ryan Lambert were excellent, holding Jersey Shore to just a single run, an RBI single in the fifth. They struck out 10 and gave up just six hits.

St. Lucie fell into a hole early, getting down 2-0 in the second, though they got one back in the bottom of the second with a balk.
Their big inning came in the sixth. A.J. Ewing drove in the game tying run with a walk, and Daiverson Gutierrez drove in the game leading run with a walk of his own. Trey Snyder hit into a fielder’s choice to make it 4-2. They would make it 5-2 when Synder and Ewing executed a double steal of second and home, putting a cap on the inning.
Daytona got one back in the eighth, but Vincent Perozo got it back for St. Lucie with an RBI single, putting the game out of reach.
