The right-hander has been lights out in Syracuse.
Ahead of their series in Baltimore, the Mets are calling up right-handed pitched Alex Carrillo, per Anthony DiComo. The name may be unfamiliar to most Mets fans, as Carrillo was signed out of Venezuela last winter after pitching in independent ball for parts of the past four years.
Carrillo made 15 appearances with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies earlier this year, where he put up a pedestrian 4.19 ERA over 19.1 innings. However, since being called up to Triple-A Syracuse, he’s been very impressive. Small sample size caveats apply, but in five and two-thirds innings, Carrillo has struck out ten and not issued a walk or a base hit. His fastball has also touched 100 on the Syracuse radar gun.
Joe DeMayo posted this video of Carrillo on his Twitter account earlier today.

With the return of both Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea imminent, we will likely be seeing less relievers on the carousel up and down Route 81. However, with a bullpen that is still very much in flux, and with one of their important arms in Dedniel Nuñez potentially undergoing Tommy John Surgery, someone like Carrillo has a chance to stick around for a bit.
