Acuña is back for today’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
Ahead of today’s doubleheader with the Orioles, the Mets have recalled Luisangel Acuña from Triple-A Syracuse. In a corresponding move, the team has designated Travis Jankowski for assignment.
Acuña was sent down on June 23 so he could get more consistent playing time in Triple-A. At the time, he was struggling at the major league level and had seen his playing time diminished with Ronny Mauricio returning to the lineup. In 12 games at Triple-A, Acuña is slashing .289/.346/.378.
Jankowski has has very little playing time in his second stint with the Mets. He has mostly served as a late-inning defensive replacement and has only had one plate appearance—a sacrifice bunt in Tuesday’s extra inning win. He also picked up one run, but otherwise did not see much action at the plate.
As a final bit of news for today, the Mets have appointed Austin Warren as the 27th man for both games of the doubleheader. This is a role Warren has been very familiar with this year, as it’s been his primary function for New York. In five innings for New York, he’s allowed one earned run on three hits, with three walks and four strikeouts across three appearances.
