Bullpen again keeps Mets in game after a starter exits early, but the offense was unable to capitalize.
Unfortunately for the Mets, spot starter Robert Stock gave up a leadoff home run to Jonathan India to tie the game, then was forced to leave the game before the start of the second with a hamstring injury.
Pressed into emergency service, Stephen Nogosek threw a game three innings, but faltered enough to surrender back-to-back home runs to Joey Votto and Aristides Aquino in the third to give the Reds a 3-1 lead.
The Mets hit the ball hard off of Wade Miley, but were unable to score again until the seventh. Defensive miscues by the Reds in the seventh and eighth allowed the Mets to push across a run in each inning, but a Reds insurance run in the bottom of the seventh ensured the Mets could never quite catch up and match the previous day’s heroics.
